Dedicated
to young photo artists, BROOKLYN TRANSIT strives to create a cultural
platform between Africa and America, two worlds that attract,
ignore and are fascinated by each other.
For
an entire week, a tribe of image lovers, the “underdogs”
of world photography, will gather to participate in various events
where all kinds of photography, both past and present, will meet.
The festival will give preference to the work of unknown or barely
known photographers without however excluding established artists.
Each selected project will have a link with Africa, without necessarily
portraying the continent itself. BROOKLYN TRANSIT will promote
high quality images and all applicants will be considered on an
equal footing regardless of their origin.
Rather
than using established venues, the exhibitions will take place
in various locations around Brooklyn, which through their diversity
will give the festival greater visibility and will serve as a
reminder of the popular roots of photography.
BROOKLYN
TRANSIT will not only be the first photo festival ever organized
in New York but also on the east coast of the United States. Brooklyn
is the perfect choice to host such an event: a unique place in
the world and a world in itself, a rich cultural history in a
new country. This dynamic borough has become the hub of New York’s
artistic life.
Brooklyn
is emblematic of what an urban area with great racial mixing can
be, where the encounter of photography with diversity should therefore
be celebrated.
